Sony Announces VENICE 4K Live Bundle: Bringing the Cinematic Look to Live Production

Jun 01, 2023

Yet again, an item of one of the hottest jargon related to cinematography. The effort invested in making live events more cinematic. This time, Sony introduces the VENICE 4K Live Bundle. The goal: Bringing the cinematic look to live production.

Sony Electronics Inc. and MultiDyne Video and Fiber Optic Systems today introduced VENICE 4K Live, a new bundle created specifically for cinematic live productions. As Sony stated: “Since its introduction, the VENICE has become the go-to camera for feature films and television production thanks to its dual base ISO of 500/2500, built-in ND filters, and more than 15+ stops of dynamic range”. Indeed, the acclaimed VENICE is one of the most popular cinema cameras among top-tier DPs. For instance, explore our Oscars 2023 Camera Chart which demonstrates the Sony VENICE at 3rd place, right after ARRI ALEXA MINI LF and 65. Hence, utilizing the VENICE in other un-cinematic productions (per definition) seems logical. That goes to all other camera manufacturers (RED, ARRI, Canon, and even IMAX).

Sony explains: “As the industry continues to embrace cinematic storytelling in live productions, Sony is committed to meeting the needs of production crews capturing live events. Joining the HDC-F5500 s35mm live camera system is the new VENICE 4K Live. The VENICE 4K Live bundle was developed with MultiDyne based on feedback from the top live event professionals in the industry. MultiDyne’s Emmy award-winning SilverBack Fiber Optic Camera Adapter transforms the VENICE from a cinema camera into a live event camera – allowing crews to embrace cinematic storytelling into their live productions, whether that is through the use of cinema lenses, shallow depth of field, or low-light environments.

The SilverBack V camera transceiver transports one 12G-SDI and one 3G-SDI video signal bi-directionally between your VENICE and the VB base station. By using a headset connection on the camera transceiver you can deliver secure video feeds to your control room or broadcast truck and communicate clear instructions to your camera operator. A Genlock port, a GPIO port, and a serial data connection with RCP control are also incorporated into the device.

The new VENICE 4K Live bundle includes:

The VENICE 4K Live is now available exclusively in North America for approximately $47,000 USD and $62,500 CAD. Pre-sales will begin on March 20, 2023, and the first shipments will begin in mid-April. BTW, check out The Weeknd – Live At Sofi Stadium Trailer (HBO Concert Special), where the Sony VENICE, VENICE 2, and MultiDyne systems were utilized to capture this concert for HBO
